Contract Assets
Contract Assets and Deferred Revenue
Book a contract asset or deferred revenue on each revenue contract at month end, independent of when the contract is invoiced.
Contract asset tracking lets revenue recognition run independently of invoice timing. At each month end, DualEntry nets a contract’s billing against its recognized revenue and posts an adjustment. A contract recognized ahead of billing shows a contract asset on an unbilled receivables account. A contract billed ahead of recognition shows deferred revenue.
