How a report question is answered
A report question is a request for a Report Center view: a named statement, a period, and the filters that view already accepts. Accounting Intelligence reads that view once, quotes from the result, and attaches a report card that opens the same query. The card carries the report and filters used to source the reply. Report Center reruns that view when you choose the card, so later postings can change its figures even with the same dates and filters. Accounting Intelligence does not draw a second copy of the statement inside the conversation. The full report lives in Report Center. Two surfaces reach this same path. From the Agents panel, a question such as “Show last month’s P&L” produces the card, and choosing the card opens Report Center. From an open report, the embedded panel already knows which report you are looking at on most reports, and choosing a new card applies that card’s filters to the page. On Flux, VAT, 1099, and CTA balance audit reports, the panel does not read the open report, so name it in your question. In both cases the page changes only after you choose the card. Permissions are the ones on your role. A report you cannot open in Report Center does not appear in chat either. The company selector on the conversation decides which books are read, the same as on any other Accounting Intelligence question. See How Accounting Intelligence Works. Built-in skills reach this path too./ar-aging-digest reads its figures through it. /flux-analysis uses it to rank the three largest income-statement movers, by default for the last completed month against the month before, then explains the largest from its vendor or customer drivers. See Skills.
Report families it can read
Accounting Intelligence can name and read the reports in your Report Center catalog, including saved custom reports, not only the core financial statements. A question that clearly means one of these families is answered from that report, not from a separate calculation. For example, “What was EBITDA last quarter?” reads the EBITDA income statement rather than a house formula. The catalog you see is the same one Report Center shows for your role, so a report your permissions hide is not offered here either. The table below lists the report families Accounting Intelligence can read, with examples of what to ask for.
Saved custom reports are reached by the name you gave them, as in
Run Board P&L. Accounting Intelligence can list the custom reports you can open and export one that already exists.
Report packages and dashboards are not this path. Build, schedule, and run a package in report packages. Compose a dashboard in Dashboards.
Filters, grouping, and account ranges
Accounting Intelligence can set the filters and grouping that the target report already offers in Report Center. If a report has no classification filter, asking for a department does not add one. Typical arguments you can name in the question:- Period, as a phrase such as last quarter or year to date, which Accounting Intelligence turns into a start and end date, or as explicit dates
- One or more companies
- Account, account type, customer, vendor, item, or classification, when that report accepts them
- Grouping or columns the report already supports, such as by department or by month
- Depreciation book, on the fixed-asset register and rollforward
Report cards
A report card is the compact record of one read: the report, the view (summary or detail), the dates, and the filters. It is not the statement itself. Choosing the card does two different things depending on where you are:- From the Agents panel or the full Accounting Intelligence page, it opens Report Center on that query and keeps the same chat open in the embedded panel.
- From an already open report, it applies the card’s filters to the page in place.
Saving, export, and email
Three write-or-deliver actions sit on top of a successful read. Each one starts from the card, not from a new guess at the filters. Save stores the card’s query as a custom report under a name you give. You confirm on an approval card before anything is written. Create permission is required for a new name, and edit permission is required to replace an existing saved report. A name already used by a posted custom report is not overwritten: Accounting Intelligence returns that report and asks whether to replace it. A name held by an archived report is refused. A new save stores the dates that were read, not a rolling preset. Replacing a saved report without changing its dates keeps that report’s own period setting. Formula rows, group rows, and other Customize-builder layout are out of scope, and Accounting Intelligence does not replace a saved report that has a Customize layout. See How to Use the Custom Report Builder. Export produces the file Report Center would give you for that same query, as Excel, CSV, or PDF. Email sends that file after the reporting read returns. Sending uses the Gmail connector on your own account, and you approve the send. If Gmail is not connected, Accounting Intelligence shows a card to connect it rather than claiming the export failed. A scheduled agent can run a report instruction on a cadence. A save or send during a scheduled run waits until you approve it. See Scheduled Agents.Limits
These are the current boundaries of the reporting path. They are product limits, not prompt-wording problems.- The page updates only after you choose the report card. There is no automatic apply.
- Accounting Intelligence does not invent a Customize-builder layout. It saves filters and the standard view, then you reshape rows and columns in Report Center.
- It does not create a rolling date preset from chat. A new saved report keeps the dates that were read.
- Flux report cards follow the Flux Analysis reports: month over month, quarter over quarter, and year-to-date versus prior year-to-date on the income statement, and month over month on the balance sheet. For year over year or two non-adjacent periods, Accounting Intelligence reads the statement once for each period and gives a calculated difference instead of a Flux card.
- A request for every transaction on a statement returns the card, not a full posting list. Name one account and one period to see the postings behind that line.
- Report packages and dashboards are not created, scheduled, or run from this path.
- Display options such as number scale, decimal dropping, and zero-balance hiding are not arguments on the card.
